Show How Much You Appreciate Him On Father’s Day

Sunday, June 19th is Father’s Day, and it’s a great chance to show your husband just how much he means to you! It isn’t about gifts or other material things (though he probably won’t complain) – instead, this is a wonderful day to praise his contributions to the household, the family, and beyond.

See, many men thrive on praise – the ego stroke of knowing they’re doing things right, that things are under control, that the people around them are safe and happy…

…And what better way to celebrate Father’s Day than telling your husband exactly what he’s doing right!

This isn’t to say that satisfying his ego is the only important thing, just that most men (and really, most people) feel uplifted and validated by acknowledgement of their efforts. It feels good to know you’re appreciated.

One of the best ways to do this is with a handwritten letter – and the kids can participate too! Spend a little time thinking about your favorite qualities of his, what he provides for the family, what you like about his looks, his attitude, or anything else! Look back at the past year – what has he done to make a positive difference in you and the kids’ lives?

A handwritten letter is far more personal than say, and email or a pre-made greeting card, and more memorable than just a conversation. A physical letter means being able to go back and reread as often as he wants.

It’s also a way to celebrate this holiday without taking on a tremendous expense, while at the same time giving your husband something he definitely wants: the admiration of his family.

Even if you don’t have kids, this is something you can do for your own father, grandfather, uncles, etc. If your family is blended, and your husband is a stepdad, let him know how much you appreciate his involvement in your children’s lives.

If nothing else, this is an opportunity be direct about the things that are going well in your marriage (even if things aren’t perfect). The point is to show your genuine appreciation, so be as specific as you possibly can!

Knowing how much he means to you… will mean the world to him. Happy Father’s Day!
