The 2014 Academy Awards are on March 2nd, and this widely watched event is shaping up to be just as massive and glamorous as we’ve come to expect. With all the pomp and ceremony involved in the Oscars, all of the commentary and television coverage, why should you care?
Well, not only is it one of the most prestigious award ceremonies, celebrating the talents of some of the world’s greatest actors, it’s also such a large-scale event that you and your spouse can actually find ways to participate – for your benefit, of course!
You might wonder how you can possibly participate in something like the Academy Awards – and what any of this has to do with your marriage. Well, it’s a perfect opportunity to do something a little different for your date night. Here are a few ideas for making the most out of the Oscars:
1. Fancy Academy Party
If the stars are getting dressed to the nines, you can too! Invite your friends over for an upscale cocktail party and Oscar viewing event, complete with sexy dresses, neckties, and fancy drinks.
While this may be a bit of an undertaking to prepare for, the final result is worth it! Enlist some of your closest friends to help make the arrangements, and get as many people involved as you can. When everyone is looking fabulous and sipping martinis, you might just feel like a movie star yourself!
If you manage to watch some of the awards in the process, that’s a bonus!
2. Film Buff
Break out the popcorn and get ready for some serious film critiquing! If you want to be “in the know” for all of the Oscar talk, make a deal with your spouse to see all of the films nominated for Best Picture, and spend some quality time discussing their merits, their meanings, and the elements you found the most impressive.
If you aren’t a big film buffs already, don’t worry – even the most amateur critic can find something to appreciate in these masterful films, and the two of you might just find a new appreciation for cinema!
3. Place Your Bets
The Academy Awards are a competition after all, with winners announced throughout the evening for practically every category you can imagine. To spice things up with your spouse, place bets on who you think will win each category (whether or not you’ve seen the movies).
You can wager whatever you want, but why not make it interesting? Prizes could include a massage, being relieved of some household duty for the week, or even something a little steamier, like fulfilling a fantasy or getting the “royal treatment” for an evening. It’s up to you!
Whether it’s the Oscars or some other major event, finding some inspiration to do something out of the ordinary with your spouse helps build on the connection you share, brings you closer together, and might even create a tradition you can look forward for years to come. Happy Oscar watching!
